Martin County Celebrates Business and Industry at Annual Dinner with NC Commerce Secretary Lee Lilley

On March 20, Martin County welcomed North Carolina’s newly appointed Secretary of Commerce, Lee Lilley, as the featured speaker at the Martin County Annual Dinner, held at the Senator Bob Martin Eastern Agricultural Center. The event brought together community members, business owners, and leaders from around the State to recognize and celebrate the achievements that continue to drive the region forward.

Secretary Lilley, who recently stepped into his role, shared insights on economic development across North Carolina and emphasized the importance of supporting rural communities like Martin County. His visit highlighted the state’s commitment to strengthening partnerships and encouraging sustainable growth in Eastern North Carolina.

A special moment of the evening was dedicated to Weyerhaeuser, honoring their anniversary and recognizing their lasting contributions to the community. As a cornerstone of Martin County’s industrial landscape, Weyerhaeuser has consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to local jobs, sustainability, and civic engagement.

The dinner also honored two standout individuals for their service and leadership. Richard James, a respected local attorney, was named Business Person of the Year for his professional excellence and deep community involvement. Sheriff Drew Robinson received the Citizen of the Year award in recognition of his leadership and dedicated service to local community groups and the tireless efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of Martin County residents. Also recognized was the recently retired husband and wife duo, Tim and Vickie Manning, on their contributions to the community over the years.
